Water district & ditch administration software

Water orders, ditchrider runs, and assessments — in one app built for ditch companies.

Water district and ditch administration software built for irrigation districts and mutual ditch companies. An offline-first mobile app for ditch riders in the field and a share-based ledger for the office, so every order, delivery, and assessment lives in one system instead of a spreadsheet and a stack of paper run sheets.

Hosted on AWS · Stripe-secured payments · SSL/TLS encrypted

The problem

Three people, one tangle of spreadsheets and paper.

Most ditch companies run on a spreadsheet only one person fully understands, run sheets that ride along on a clipboard, and shareholder records in a filing cabinet. Here is where that breaks down.

The secretary

The assessment spreadsheet lives on one laptop and only one person knows how it works. Assessment season turns into weeks of manual reconciliation, and shareholder records sit in a filing cabinet where no one else can find them.

The ditchrider

Paper run sheets get wet, smudged, or lost. There is no signal at the headgate, so updates get called in by phone hours later — if they get called in at all. The office is always a step behind what happened in the field.

The shareholder

No clear way to know when water is coming, no record of past orders to point to in a dispute, and a paper bill once a year with no detail behind it. Every question becomes a phone call to the secretary.

Mapping

A map of your district, included.

Headgates, turnouts, ditches — drawn the way you see them. Patrons drop pins, admins draw the network. No Google or ArcGIS fees.

Drop a pin

Patrons mark a spot on the map. A meeting place, a problem, a parcel. Staff see it instantly.

Draw your network

Admins place headgates and turnouts and draw laterals right on the map. Satellite, terrain, dark — pick the view.

Works offline

Once the map loads, the tiles stay on the phone. Open it on Wi-Fi, use it out in the field.

Newer features

Built for the hard parts of a dry year.

Three capabilities most districts can't get anywhere else — for setting a fair cap when water is short, seeing where water is running, and comparing delivery efficiency without exposing anyone.

Drought curtailment

Set a cap, publish it as a dated decision, and see every patron sorted ok, near-limit, or over — with a CSV for the board.

Delivery benchmarks

Payments

One payment system, top to bottom.

Loamio bills your district directly through Stripe. Your district then uses the same Stripe connection to assess and collect from shareholders — by ACH, card, or invoice. No second vendor, no second contract, and no spreadsheet reconciliation between what was billed and what was collected.

Loamio → your district

Your subscription is billed through Stripe on a flat monthly plan. Standard Stripe processing fees are passed through at cost.

Your district → shareholders

Assessments and water-order charges are collected from patrons through your district's connected Stripe account — ACH, card, or invoice — and reconciled automatically against the ledger.

Built for Western water

Built on the realities of Western water law.

Western water is governed by prior appropriation and tracked in shares, not by a flat per-acre allotment. Loamio is built around how that actually works, down to the regulatory reporting cycle.

  • Prior appropriation doctrineSeniority and decreed rights are first-class data, so deliveries and call orders follow the priority system districts actually administer.
  • Share-based ledgersRights are recorded as shares with an acre-feet-per-share basis, not a single flat allotment — the way mutual ditch companies are structured.
  • State agency data integrationDiversion and gauge data integrate from state sources. Colorado's CDSS is a worked example; the model extends to other states' systems.
  • Designed around the reporting cycleRecords and exports line up with the regulatory reporting and assessment cycle, so compliance is a byproduct of daily use rather than a separate scramble.

Rollout

How rollout works.

  1. Discovery

A call to review how your district works today and a look at your current data and process.

  2. Migration

We migrate your records from spreadsheets or a legacy system, with shares and balances reconciled.

  3. Training

Hands-on training for ditchriders in the field and for secretaries and the board in the office.

  4. Go-live

You go live before your next assessment or water-order cycle, with support through the transition.

Questions

Common questions before signing on.

Is Loamio water district and ditch administration software?

Yes. Loamio is water district and ditch administration software built for irrigation districts and mutual ditch companies. It covers the jobs a ditch company does every week — taking water orders, running ditch rider routes, billing assessments, tracking shares, and keeping shareholder records — in one app instead of a spreadsheet and a stack of paper run sheets.

Who owns our data?

Your district does. The records you put into Loamio — shareholders, shares, orders, and billing history — belong to you, and you can export them at any time.

What happens if we lose internet in the field?

The ditchrider app is offline-first. Riders mark deliveries, skips, and notes at the headgate with no signal, and every change syncs automatically once the device is back in range.

What if Loamio goes away — can we export?

Yes. You can export your shareholders, ledger, orders, and billing history to CSV at any time, so your records are never locked inside the product.

How do you handle security and shareholder PII?

Data is encrypted in transit over SSL/TLS and access is controlled per user and per district. Shareholder information is isolated by district so one organization can never see another's records.

Where is data hosted?

On Amazon Web Services in US regions, with automated backups.

How does Stripe work for patron billing?

Your district connects a Stripe account through Loamio and collects assessments and water-order charges from shareholders by ACH, card, or invoice. Standard Stripe processing fees are passed through at cost.

Can we migrate from our current spreadsheet or software?

Yes. Migration from spreadsheets or a legacy system is part of onboarding, including reconciling shares and balances before go-live.
